Concept Summary: An Interactive Halftime Experience

We're proud to introduce Island Hoppers, the first dynamic game built for the LED floor at BMW Park in Munich – home to the world’s first permanently installed ASB GlassFloor.

This high-energy digital game delivers fast-paced fun for players and a captivating spectacle for fans.

Blending sports tech, interactive entertainment, and immersive fan engagement, Island Hoppers showcases how LED sports floors are redefining live events.

The UX Game Flow

In Island Hoppers, two teams of two players each race to reach a central treasure island on the interactive LED floor. The objective? Collaborate, communicate, and move fast — because teamwork and speed are the keys to victory.

Each player begins on a virtual sand patch at the corner of the playing field. Ahead lies deep ocean water and two floating tiles. Players must work together to identify the one matching tile that appears in both of their sets.

✅ If they choose correctly, two new tiles will appear.

❌ If they choose wrong, the tile will break beneath them and they will need to restart from the beginning.

As the game advances, the visual differences between the tiles become more challenging to detect. Later levels may feature only subtle distinctions — like a turtle shell pattern or the number of planks on a raft — pushing teams to sharpen their observation and communication.

Each round uses a randomized tile generation system, ensuring that every match is unique. With endless combinations and increasing difficulty, Island Hoppers delivers a thrilling, replayable experience for both players and spectators alike.

Tech Stack: Unity-Powered Real-Time Gameplay with UWB Tracking

We built Island Hoppers using Unity, leveraging its powerful game engine capabilities to deliver an immersive, physics-driven experience on the ASB GlassFloor.

Key features developed in Unity:

  • Real-Time Water Simulation: Featuring dynamic floating physics to mimic realistic ocean behavior beneath each player’s step.
  • Physics-Based Gameplay Mechanics: Every hop, fall, and splash reacts to true-to-life motion, enhancing immersion and engagement.
  • Procedural Puzzle Generation: Ensures endless variety—no two games are ever the same, keeping the experience fresh and unpredictable.
  • Interactive Action Tiles: Includes real-time visual effects such as waves, vortexes, and animated sharks for tactile, reactive gameplay.

Player tracking:

We integrated KINEXON’s UWB (Ultra-Wideband) Tracking System to enable precise, real-time player positioning—crucial for syncing gameplay with the interactive LED floor.
